Simone Strey



Simone Strey is a German internet entrepreneur who is co-founder and CEO of the mobile crop advisory app Plantix. For her work, she was honored with the Innovators under 35 Award by MIT technology review in 2016.

As a PhD candidate, Strey worked on several scientific papers dealing with carbon stocks in soil and sustainable land use. In collaboration with the Mekranoti, an indigenous tribe of the Kayapo nation in Brazil's Pará state, she investigated the carbon content of the soil to a depth of 10 metres (33 ft) in an untouched forest in Amazonia. Strey was also co-founder of Green Desert e.V. in 2008 and has been chairman of the association since then. Green Desert is an NGO committed to sustainable agriculture and open source technologies in Gambia and Senegal.
