Member of the German Bundestag and Chairman, Alliance 90/The Greens
Anton Hofreiter was born in Munich on February 2nd 1970. After his graduation in 1990 he studied biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University. He holds a doctorate degree in botany and worked and lectured several years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of botanical systematics at the University of Munich. From 1997 to 2001 he conducted research abroad, especially dealing with matters of biodiversity in South America.
Already as a teenager Anton Hofreiter engaged in political matters. He joined Alliance 90 / The Greens at the age of 16. During the following years he worked as a Spokesman in the district association in Munich-Land. From 1998 to 2005 he worked as a political advisor to Susanna Tausendfreund and Dr. Christian Magerl, both members of the Regional State Parliament in Bavaria. From 2002 till 2013 Anton Hofreiter was elected member to the district council in Munich-Land. He is a member of the German Parliament since 2005, chairing the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development from 2011 till 2013. In October 2013 he was appointed Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of Alliance 90 / The Greens in the German Parliament.
