FoodBerlin is a research and innovation network in the field of sustainable nutrition systems. It was founded in 2016 by professors from Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Universität Potsdam, with Prof. Dr. Jürgen Zentek (FU) as speaker.
FoodBerlin connects about 35 university working groups in the capital region with non-university research institutions and companies in order to intensify cooperation in research and teaching, to facilitate the acquisition of third-party funds and to raise public awareness. The range of topics covers the entire food value chain, for example:
- Production bases such as soil, climate, biodiversity
- Sustainable plant production
- Housing and well-being of food-providing animals
- Healthy food and feed
- Human and animal health
- Economic and psychological aspects, e.g. markets and consumer behaviour
Integrative elements of FoodBerlin are concrete, externally funded collaborative projects on cross-cutting topics that link different areas in an interdisciplinary way.
